Mr. Florell ℅ Ms. Bynum, Ms. Craig, Ms. Dawson, and Ms. Rainey
We begin Remote Learning on Monday, April 13, 2020. There will be challenges as we all learn to communicate with new technologies and routines. We are excited to meet these challenges and continue mathematics and english language arts/writing learning with Ray’s amazing students. We are looking forward to building together with our students and families (remote) learning community.
Online Meeting Schedule: listed below. We will meet Monday through Wednesday for short classes and then again on Friday for a Kahoot! about what we learned. Students will have Thursdays to work on weekly assignments and Khan Academy Homework. NO REMOTE LEARNING THIS FRIDAY, APRIL 17, 2020 as it is a teacher professional development day.Mr. Florell will share a Google Meet link in Google Classroom each day (it will show up in the header bar near the top left corner). Starting on Monday, April 13, 2020 we will begin studying our individual assignments for Math and ELA in 7th grade and in 8th grade. We will also talk about online meeting norms and what assigned work will look like.

Daily Assignments: This will be checking in during the assigned time for class discussion (Math Talk, Mini Lessons, DoNow). There may also be a follow up exit ticket question in Google Classroom to be done by the next class meeting. We will try to record and post the daily meetings links for Google Meet or Google Chat.
Weekly Assignments: Assigned in Google Classroom each Monday morning and may include 2-4 of the following for Math:
Khan Academy video and practice problems
Common Core State Standards worksheets
Hands on projects
Open-up curriculum applet tasks (Prodigy)
Study guides with attached practice quizlet
English Language Arts:
Readworks
Journal writing asignments
Packets: Students and families may choose alternate packet work in place of the online teaching and learning. Please contact me at [email protected] and I can put you in touch with a Ray administrator who will work with you on a packet pick-up and drop-off schedule.
Grades: We will follow the CPS and ISBE grading guidelines. A link to the CPS letter on Remote Schooling can be found on my blog at the following link. http://nflorell.weebly.com/
Time expectations: CPS is recommending at least 180 total minutes a day for all student learning. Math is just a part of that (36 minutes to be exact). I am trying to plan with that in mind. We will check in on April 20, 2020 and see how the first week went and what changes might be needed.
Office Hours: 12:00 pm. to 1:30pm daily by appointment. Meetings via email, Google Classroom chat, or Google Hangouts chat.
Technology: CPS has said they are going to get laptops and/or tablets out to those who need one. They will be making “Robocalls” to home, and will distribute from Ray.
Communication with students: Google Classroom, CPS email, Google Meet (whole class), Google Hangout chat
Communication with parents/families: email
