Mr. Florell Please read while we are away. This is an update about your child from Mr. Florell's class.3/16/2020 Week of 3/16/2020 Educational Update
Good afternoon, I hope that you and your family and friends are healthy and prepared for the upcoming two weeks. Since we are not at Ray, this is a recommendation for educational activities for your son or daughters to do while away. I have emailed your child with resources that will keep them engaged in learning, and will be sending home links at the bottom with the hard copies for them to do for English Language Arts and Math. E-learning platforms will be reviewed for student work too. During the time that we are away from Ray the janitorial staff will be cleaning all areas of the school. This includes the students desks and locker. Therefore, students will be bringing home any belongings today. It also means that nobody is going to be able to access the school from this point on. The election this Tuesday is the only time patrons can enter the building, but no one will be allowed to access the school. For communication I will be using Google Classroom and will post on my blog that can be found on the Ray School website. Your child is capable of sending messages through Google Classroom. Parents you can reach me at this email [email protected]. I will be checking daily. I encourage you to look through the District email for any guidance; this can be found on CPS.Edu/parents. I know this has been a difficult time, but my hope is that everyone will make a healthy return to Ray to finish the school year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for help. Sincerely, Nate Florell https://docs.google.com/document/d/17pYtcG603yM-1C952UOSivnzdRYrJvI78V-_82XAH-E/edit https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ilEAUNaO1UGM2L4qKoR0p8pjP_TKy8ABKK3BJpUjaeI/preview We are beginning the last five weeks of Quarter 3. 7th grade students are working on Integers, and our 8th graders are solving equations.
In Writing we will begin writing opinion pieces. In ELA we will continue to do our vocabulary and reading comprehension with different reading strategies (predicting, inferring, and questioning). As a class we could surely use more hand sanitizer and paper towels. If you are willing to donate that would be great. Thanks, Mr. Florell Black History projects due at the latest 2/28/2020. We will provide time during ELA. Mathwise, we are continuing to work on percentages and slope. We are creating projects for %, slope, area, perimeter, and volume. Stay tuned. If your child does not have homework they actually should be doing Khan Mappers or Read Theory.org. Khan requires a video and ten questions for followup, and ReadTheory requires three reading and quizzes.
For futures our students will take the Constitution for 7th and Illinois Constitution for 8th. Dates to be determined, but each child has a study guide and should be studying for homework sake. Thanks, Mr. Florell r. We are back and have completed our Winter NWEA testing. 7th grade students are getting ready for Constitution test. Our students will take a modified test. Reading will be dedicated to reading Dear Martin for 7th and 8th grade. Students are working on MELCON; this is their writing organizer for main idea and evidence/example/explanation and conclusion.
In Math we are working at different places; for some 8th graders, we are working on slope and proportionality; whereas others are working on simplifying fractions and Geometry. I apologize for being absentee with Google Classroom; I will be posting twice a week for Math and Reading. If their are any questions feel free to email me at [email protected]. Thanks! Mr. Florell |
